Ground source heat pumps run
on electricity, so there’s no need
to pay for gas, oil or solid fuels
to heat your house.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps use pipes buried in the garden to extract heat from the earth,
which can be used to warm radiators or under floor systems or pre-heat water before
it enters a traditional boiler.

Grow money and CO2 savings in your garden

This system works by having a ground source heat pump circulate a mixture of water
and anti-freeze along a loop of pipe that is buried in the garden. When the liquid travels
along this ground loop it absorbs heat from the surrounding earth.

The length of this loop is determined by the size of your home. Basically the longer
the loop, the more space it can heat. And if you don’t have sufficient area in your
garden to take a horizontal loop, one can be buried vertically to depths of 100 metres.

You don't have to dig deep to reap the benefits

You don’t have to dig deep to reap the benefits

Ground source heat pumps are a great way to reduce your carbon footprint when
compared to using fossil fuels.

In addition, they mean the only other fuel you will need in your home is electricity
to power the pump. Plus, this system is more cost efficient than using electric radiators.

How much will I save?

As you would expect, running cost savings depend on the size of your home,
the type of fuel you are replacing, the level of insulation you have and so on.

However, based on a detached home using a ground source pump system
to provide around 50% of domestic hot water and 100% of space heating,
this solution could save you around £1,000 a year if you are replacing an
electric system.
