Green Energy Centre

Education Programme

Article date: 25.05.10

Dorset company Green Energy Centres based in Ferndown and Christchurch have recently announced the launch of their Education Programme involving all the local schools in the Dorset area.

The award winning Green Energy Centres were the brainchild of Danny Godfrey along with Boyland Joinery and Dorset Energy Advice Centre.  The Centres are interactive and educational showrooms demonstrating greener renewable technologies.

Education has always been at the forefront of Danny’s mind when he started the original concept, and its now the Centres are up and running successfully that he and his team are ready to launch the Education Programme.

The Green Energy buses are a major part of the programme, and can be driven to any school, community group, retail outlet or village hall.  The concept behind the vans is simple - to be able to educate people on the importance of green energy in a fun and informal way.  The buses have been fully fitted out with green energy related equipment including ground source heat pumps, solar panels running live heating systems, energy saving lighting – it has to be seen to be believed!

Danny says “Educating youngsters of today is a real passion of mine, it very often disturbs me just how little young people of today know about the planet, atmosphere, carbons, fossil fuels etc.  What we aim to do with the Green Energy Buses is educate as many people as possible about the environment and its affects on our day to day life – and how we can avoid this in a fun and interesting way using real equipment demonstrating in real time”.   All the equipment is working and linked up so people can actually feel the pipes heating up from the solar panels, and see it all working.

As well as the buses each school is donated a dolls house which is left with them showing how wall and loft insulation can help save money. One side of the house is fully insulated and the other is not – on the roofs there are solar panels and thermostats showing how the temperature differs between the insulated and non-insulated areas of the house.

The Green Energy Centres Education Programme is being led by Linda Gray who says “We are absolutely delighted with the buses, and the reception we’ve had from the schools is fantastic.  I think its down to the fact that the children can see, touch, feel and experience the different aspects of the importance of green energy.”

Linda is currently promoting the buses to every school and community group in the area.  So if you would like a visit of the Green Energy Centre Education Bus contact Linda now on 0800 975 0166.
