Green Energy's Green Apple AwardArticle date: 17.06.10 The trophy was presented by star of stage and screen, Carol Royle, at the Tower of London on Monday (June 14). The trophies are awarded annually in recognition of companies, councils and communities carrying out projects that enhance environment, and they beat off a lot of competition to make it to the finals. The judges commented: “These industry-supported public facilities are designed to provide the public with clear information about all types of green energy systems. Its not just the equipment that impresses though, as the staff are all trained and qualified green energy experts.”
Danny Godfrey (pictured above) of Green Energy Centres says “We’re really pleased that our work has been recognised and it’s a real honor for all our team here, who feel that we’re working together and within the community to make the world a better place now and for future generations.” Launched at the end of 2009, the Green Energy Centres have made a huge impact in Dorset already and they plan to keep up the good work by offering advice to everyone on how they contribute to damage done by their carbon emissions, but also how they can reduce and repair that damage. The Centres in Ferndown and Christchurch are interactive and educational showrooms that demonstrate greener renewable technologies for the home. Visitors can learn about renewable energy products such as ground and air source pumps, photovoltaic panels, and low energy lighting, as well as calculate their own individual carbon footprint. The Green Apple award-winning project will be featured in the next Green Book, the worlds only work of reference on environmental best practice, and they will also be presented a Green Hero wall shield in November during a special prize-giving ceremony at the House of Commons. The Green Apple Awards campaign is run by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world. Their supporters include the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and various other professional bodies. National Organiser Roger Wolens commented: “Organisations that go the extra mile and become Green Heroes are demonstrating a serious commitment to the world around them. They invest in a better future for us all and deserve to be recognised for their efforts.” |
